Reebok "Time Out" - Anne Fletcher Anne Fletcher was born in Detroit, Michigan. She began dancing at age 11 as a Hawaiian and Tahitian dancer. Then at age 12, with jazz, tap, ballet. She was trained in Checcetti and passed all levels with the highest honors. At age 13 she began teaching for her teacher's studio, then her own students in her basement that her Mom converted into a dance studio. She continued studying & teaching all through high school. Also performing in all of her dance recitals and state fairs. Along with all of that, she began dancing professionally at age 15, in a show, called "Salute to the Superstars." She did this till she was 18. At 16 she went to JoeTremaine's first dance convention he held in Detroit. It was there that she got a one month dance scholarship to study in California at Joe's studio. And there lied her fate. At 18 she moved to California to use her scholarship and dance. She immediately began dancing for an up and coming choreographer, Jeff Andrews. It was short after that that she became his assistant. She traveled the world dancing in dance fashion shows for many different sporting companies. She learned a great deal from Jeff. Aside from great steps, he was amazing at staging and using anything as a prop, and always gave you a reason to be on stage. Her and Jeff worked together for 6 years doing these shows. She also danced in some music videos and various TV shows, as well as other stage shows. She then paired up with another up and coming choreographer, Adam Shankman. They met dancing on the Academy Awards show together. When Adam starting working in film, he brought her along for an amazing journey, as a dancer and also later, as an assistant. They worked on many film projects, staged shows and benefits. She learned so much from those years with him. Understanding dance for the camera. How movies are run, being that she was the assistant she had to deal with the production end of it. The importance of story telling. The reason we are dancing. She worked closely with actors, learning to get in their heads and quickly, choreographers never get the time they need. These were lessons she actually didn't know she knew. Until one day, 3 years ago. Adam turned down directing a movie called, "Bring It On" to direct "The Wedding Planner" (his directorial debut). Adam and the executive at Universal told the producers, "If you can't have Adam, think about hiring Anne as the choreographer, to at least keep the same sensibility." She met on it and got the job. It was very challenging for her, but she loved it. After "Bring It On" she immediately went on "The Wedding Planner" to be an associate producer on the movie and co-choreographer with Adam. She loved the whole experience working in this capacity with Adam. It took a little while, but jobs starting coming in for her. She really began to love it, and quickly put to use all the things that she had learned along the way. And it paid off. Since she has been working on her own, she has choreographed 13 films, including Steven Spielberg's new movie "Catch Me If You Can", "Down With Love" with Renee Zellwegger and Ewan McGregor, "Bringing Down the House" with Steve Martin and Queen Latifa, also Adam Shankman's 3rd movie as a director. She's worked on 6 different TV shows, including "Six Feet Under", "Buffy" and the new "Firefly". |
